Integumentary System

The integumentary system is made up of various organs that aim to protect the body from various harmful conditions wether it be physical harm or environmental conditions. The system is made up of the skin, hair, and nails.

The integumentary system can maintain homeostasis in the body in a variety of ways including retaining body fluid and regulating body temperature. The system is also responsible for acting as an outer layer of protection against harmful conditions and disease.

 

 

One somewhat common disorder involving the integumentary system is psoriasis where scaly pink patches begin to form around the knees and elbowas primarily. This disorder often runs in the family and is very common amoung youths.

Another disorder involving the integumentary system is dermatitis. This disorder is an inflammatory condition of the skin. This may occur when one is exposed to acids, alkalines, solvents, and detergents causing an allergic reaction on the skins surface.
